A closer look at PackWord

When compressing, PackWord compresses the DOC file and appends the compressed data to a self-extracting header, creating the new compressed DOC file. When decompressing, the self-extracting header expands the compressed data to the original document, opens the expanded file and closes itself.

PackWord can be used to save space on a laptop's hard drive by compressing large documents, to send smaller files to limited-size e-mail accounts, or transport multi-megabyte documents using a 1.44 Megabyte diskette.
