NetMon : Lightweight application which enables you to monitor your network package, view detailed information, filter it and save it to an RTF document
NetMon is a software tool whose main purpose is to help people in monitoring their network traffic, display information pertaining to it and save all data to a file.
Minimal environment
The installation process does not pose any kind of issues, while the interface encompasses a pretty well-organized layout. It includes a quick access toolbar, a ribbon, a navigation pane and a panel in which to display the selected information.It does not enclose any Help contents, yet both power and novice users can still learn how to handle NetMon without any major difficulties.
Select network adapter and add filters
This application automatically detects all the available network adapters and displays them in a drop-down menu, so that you can easily choose the one that interests you.Aside from that, it is possible to ignore non IP addresses, enable a promiscuous mode and create custom filters, so that you can be sure you only see relevant information.
Data you can see and save to a file
It is possible to start the capture with just a click of the button and view a great deal of details in the “Capture Info” pane. To be more precise, you can view the source and destination IP address, package type, service name, sent and received bytes, as well as the number of sent and received packages.In another pane you can view further details, the monitoring process can be stopped with just a click, while you can save all the information gathered to an RTF file format. No other notable options are supported.
A final assessment
It requires an insignificant amount of system resources and therefore, will not hinder the computer’s performance. The response time is good and the interface is dedicated to all user categories.All in all, NetMon is a handy piece of software and a good choice for those interested monitoring their network traffic. In our tests it did not pop any kind of errors, hangs or crashes.
