IPtoMAC : Find the MAC address of any IPv4 device on your local network using this simple and straightforward application with intuitive settings
IPtoMAC is a straightforward piece of software that enables you to locate the MAC address of any device in your local network, even if it's protected by a personal firewall. It offers support for IPv4 and doesn't contain complicated options, so it doesn't require previous experience with networking utilities.
Old, yet functional tool
This type of application can be used to find out MAC addresses to be able to change them into something else, which is practical for network virtualization as well as exploiting security vulnerabilities. However, this tool is only designed to retrieve this information.By the look of the installer's fullscreen mode with the solid background color, the application hasn't received updates for a long time. However, it has familiar wizard steps that shouldn't impose any difficulties.
Get a PC's MAC address by IPv4 address
When it comes to the interface, IPtoMAC opts for a small window with a neatly structured layout, giving you an overview of all options available. All you have to do is specify the IPv4 address of a computer and click a button to quickly obtain its MAC address. It can be selected and copied to the Clipboard. There are no other notable options provided by this tool. Unfortunately, it doesn't implement features for identifying the MAC addresses of multiple IP addresses at the same time, nor for automatically detecting all local machines in range.
Evaluation and conclusion
As we expected from a such a compact utility, it didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. It instantly fetched the specified MAC addresses, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or indicate errors. All in all, IPtoMAC may not come with a particularly rich set of options and configuration properties, but it offers a clear-cut solution for swiftly discovering the MAC address of a computer in your subnet, as long as you know its IPv4 address. We must also keep in mind that it hasn't received updates for a long time. The software project doesn't seem to be in development anymore.
