Screeny is a lightweight application designed to help users take snapshots of the desktop by capturing the entire screen or only the windows.Since this a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry. You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to capture your desktop’s activity.Screeny sports a simplistic interface that allows users to set up the entire process with just a few clicks. You can specify the time delay (in seconds) and make the program hide before taking the screenshot.When it comes to exporting options, it is possible to save the generated snapshots to JPG or PNG, and set the JPG quality and PNG compression level. What’s more, you can crop the images with the use of the mouse cursor.Unfortunately, the application is not able to save the images to a location automatically, so you have to specify the saving directory and file name each time you take a new screenshot.During our testing we have noticed that Screeny carries out a task very quickly and without errors throughout the entire process. On the downside, it doesn’t offer very good output quality, nor give users the possibility to grab a fixed region of the desktop.All things considered, Screeny proves to be a simple application that comes packed with limited features for helping users take screenshots. It cannot compete with other powerful tools on the market, as it lacks many advanced features. However, it’s easy to work with and doesn’t slow down the system performance.
