Hotkeys are an extremely powerful tool that users can implement to make their system more efficient, offering more control how it operates via a series of shortcuts. Project HotKey is an application that allows users to create their own customizable hotkeys to shortcut various functions within their system, making it more accessible and efficient.

An extremely basic interface that is very simple, with little to no effort put into the design or appearance

When users first open Project HotKey they will be presented with a single window that looks like a text window. There is no interface, only one button, and just a toolbar that runs across the top of the window with some basic menus.The simplistic design might be functional in the strictest definition, but it shows a lack of effort on the part of the developer and just a better backdrop than the white background would have been an improvement.

A surprisingly detailed hotkey creation tool that redeems the presentation of the application

While the standard interface is extremely basic and underdeveloped, the hotkey creation tool is not. Once users go to add a new hotkey, a new window is created that displays a comprehensive list of options and straightforward, yet advanced hotkey creation tool.Rather than relying on users to press the hotkey, there is a check box for the various keys such as Shift, Alt and Control, which users can check, then press whatever key they want to create a combination. Included in the window are a series of functions, such as raising the volume, taking a screenshot or a directory browser to select a file or folder.

A simplistic program that could be improved in a number of ways, but provides a solid core to build on

There is no denying the basic nature of Project HotKey, the interface is as minimal as it can be while still being function. That being said, the actual core mechanic is well implement and while not as robust as some others, still works and offers a decent range of options. All in all, Project HotKey is a useful hotkey tool for those who want to enhance, but not overhaul the hotkey system.
