DiscFit 1.1 Beta

DiscFit : Have an organized list created to see how to best fit an abundance of files on multiple discs to save space and use less discs in burning sessions

Even though transfer methods greatly evolved along with the Internet and removable storage devices, this does not make optical discs obsolete. In case you want to create data discs with an abundance of files, it gets pretty difficult to find the right combination to cleverly fill up space to use as less discs as possible. Luckily, you can use DiscFit for this task.

Can be used on the go

Note that the program doesn’t come bundled inside a setup package, so you’re free to see what it’s all about from the moment it reaches your computer. Not only can you deploy it on a thumb drive in case you always want to have it at hand, but it doesn’t even leave any traces on the computer you use it on, because registry entries are not modified to ensure functionality. You might end up scratching your head until you get the hang of things. Even though the visual design is simplistic, there aren’t really any intuitive elements to quickly get you up and running. There aren’t many functions either, so trying them out reveals how things work.

Can’t burn files to disc

First of all, you need to add the files and folder you want to work with. This can either be done through a drag and drop operation, or relying on the browse dialogs for files, folders, or content of directories. These are all enlisted in a side panel, and you need to hit the “pack” button for the application to decide what arrangement fits best. For the process to be efficient, you also need to specify the target media. There’s a drop-down menu fitted with different entries for various types of discs, including Blu-Ray. Files and folders are then shown in a tab layout, but there’s a major downside to the whole operation. You need to then manually gather and sort files and folders, because the application can’t actually write to disk, or export a list of files.

In conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that DiscFit does manage to help provide an efficient sorting style for large data on multiple discs. However, without the possibility to actually burn files to disk, the operation of manually building lists becomes incredibly time-consuming.
