Overview
Calculates how far your fingers travel to type.
In depth
This program tallies distance under both the standard Qwerty and the Dvorak keyboard layouts. The typewriter keyboard was designed in the 1870s to prevent the first primitive typewriter from jamming. Consequently, it spurns both efficiency and ergonomics. Conversely, the Dvorak keyboard was created in 1932 to minimize finger motion while maximizing comfort.
That reduction in finger motion is the primary reason people switch to the Dvorak keyboard. However, the amount of reduction is somewhat debated. Keymileage provides a means for you to test that reduction yourself; try pasting in large blocks of text you have typed, and be amazed by the difference.
