If you use Windows Explorer or DOS to delete files, the operating system simply changes the first letter of the filename and allocates the area where the file's data was stored to be available to store other data. Shredder95 works by not only overwriting the data so that it even frustrates physical magnetic sensors, but also removes all other hints or traces of the file. No part of the original file remains, not even its name.
