A closer look at Companion

Reduced to the basics, a Web site is an evolving collection of publication scripts and self-containing pages, stored on a server. Working with Companion, you no longer edit these files directly. Instead, you assemble the scripts and pages in a component-based way, and thus accommodate a scalable and evolvable Web site.

Companion components can contain any code or script language, including ASP, HTML, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, VBScript, and XML, as well as specific parameters and Companion Script.

You can build new Web pages by assembling components and customizing them with Companion Script and selected parameters.

The program's component-based approach results in a structured collection of objects stored within a project database, which can also include content from Microsoft Access or any ODBC databases.

The built-in publication engine lets you process the components, Companion scripts, and parameters and generate code without a trace of Companion Script, enabling you to publish it to any Web server.

In addition, Companion includes drag-and-drop capability, automatic syntax coloring and code completion, as well as frame, table, form, font, and color wizards.
