The Windows Clipboard is great for transferring single items of data, it becomes awkward if you want to move a lot of data or keep data around for longer than until your next cut or copy, at which time Windows overwrites the Clipboard whether you like it or not.

ClipMate works alongside the Windows Clipboard and captures every piece of data that you copy and stores it in a collection. It can store hundreds of text and graphic data items, and with the Thumbnail Grid, you can look at miniatures of all of your graphic items. Once the data is in ClipMate, you can select an item and it is automatically placed back on the Clipboard, ready to paste into any application.

You can view, print, edit, re-format, convert to upper/lower case, search for, re-name, and re-order clip items. In addition, you can create an unlimited number of collections in which to store your data. You can name them anything you’d like, and you have full control over the retention rules so that your collections will fit your own work process. You can use a "Short-Term" collection for a catch-all, and create "Long-Term" collections ongoing projects.

Other features include: a built-in text/HTML editor; magnification; gluing; a "power-paste" option for pasting more than one item into an application; an exploding power-paste option which can break the date into fragments before pasting into another application; support for saving HTML snippets; BMP printing; an "autoprint" option for screen shots; a Taskbar System Tray icon; system-wide hot keys; sound effects; and support for text, bitmaps, WMF, RTF, and OLE.

ClipMate can even clean up forwarded e-mail messages by removing ">>" marks, unwanted linebreaks within paragraphs, and other garbage.
