FLMASK is is a JPEG and BMP image-masking and manipulation tool.Q0 Mask is a well-known full-color image masking method. WIN Mask is a 256-color image masking method mostly used in online bulletin boards. MEKO Mask is a well-known full-color image masking method with a unique circulating random exchange technique. By using masks, sensitive image materials become childproof and totally safe from prying eyes; stored images become inaccessible to unauthorized individuals.
Masks of FLMASK use Reflexive Image Treatment Effect, or RITE, technology. RITE allows users to manipulate the degree of concealment of images as desired. If you put a mask on an image, then put an exact duplicate of that mask on the same area of the image, the final image will look exactly like the first image. FL Mask creates a masked area with a characteristic whirlpool pattern. CP Mask which stands for Coded Pattern, is used for various masking patterns.
FLMask offers batch processing which is convenient for handling two or more files sequentially because there is no need to open conventional Open and Save dialog boxes. FLMask offers also a slide show function, zoom functions, a powerful selection frame controller, color and image retouching filters, and a noise-suppressing save function for masking JPEG images.
After masking an image, saving it as JPEG file and unmasking it again, lines appear on boundaries of the previously masked area of the now-unmasked image. For example, light blue lines will appear when unmasking a Q0 masked image of a human face. This Save function supresses the Mask Noise when saving masked JPEG images.
How to use FLMask
To frame the area to be masked, click and drag the mouse from upper-left to lower-right of intended area to be masked. For best result, visually double check to verify that you have framed the area correctly.Click mask button of your choice. Mask buttons are highlighted in light red. In the actual screen of FLMASK they will be activated, not highlighted. Now the mask of your choice is ON. Save it by clicking SAVE button, and you are done
How to Unmask
Load masked image on to FLMASK. In the actual FLMASK window, mask buttons are not activated (in gray) until a frame is set. Now you FRAME the area you wish to mask. There are several ways to frame the masked area. Click mask button of your choice. Mask buttons are highlighted in light red. In the actual FLMASK screen they will be activated, not highlighted, then Click the FL button.Types of Masks
Q0 Mask is a well-known full-color image masking method developed by Mr.Kurakura and used in his masking tool Q0MASK. So called Glassy Effects and negative-positive exchange are characteristic. Q0 Mask has several options, and combination of these options make a variety of effects possible. However, because of this variety, it is difficult to maintain uniformity.WIN Mask is a well known 256-color image masking method employed in Mr. Takaaki Tomura's WinMask. This mask is characterized by vertical stripes. Since WIN Mask has no options, it is very easy to mask 256-color images. Please note that an unmasked image will have Mask Noise if an image processed with WIN Mask is saved as JPEG file.
MEKO Mask is a well-known full-color image masking method employed in Mr. Yoji Igarashi's MekoMask. This mask exchanges blocked areas randomly. This mask has no options, and has a uniform masking method. Full-Color Image ONLY
FL MASK is a newly developed masking method especially designed for FLMASK. Its characteristic is that of masked areas with a whirlpool pattern. This mask has no options. A uniform masking method makes this process user friendly. (There are, however, some options to make it compatible with older FLMASK versions.) FL Mask supports both full- and 256-color images. The old version does not have Negative-Positive exchange function.
CP MASK mask process originated with Mr.Uchino, and was developed jointly with the author of FLMASK. In the masking process, a string named Coded Pattern(CP) is used for various masking patterns. In other words, Coded Patterns and masking patterns have a one-to-one correspondence. This mask has no options, and a uniform masking method makes this process user friendly. Full-Color Image Only.
NIJIIRO mask is developed by an author of masking software for Macintosh. NIJIIRO means rainbow color in Japanese. This mask produces rainbow colors in the masked area using unit pixel of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32. Multiplex masing is not recommended. If combined with FL mask, the two masks have to be removed in reverse order to regenerate the picture.
Bx3 MASK makes skin color to pink. Because of the poor concealment ability, this mask should be used as a Effect rather than to hide something. Multiplex masing is not recommended. If combined with FL mask, the two masks have to be removed in reverse order to regenerate the picture.

The tool works with various masks such as Win, FL, CP, Q0, MEKO+ or MEKO- and supports various images formats like JPEG, PNG, BMP, DIB or JPG. The popular GIF format isn't supported.
