Arm based Linux ARM Linux is a port of the successful Linux Operating System to ARM processor based machines mainly by Russell King with contributions from others. The following, which is taken from the Linux Kernel README, describes the Linux system well:
Linux is a Unix clone written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims towards POSIX compliance.
It has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory management and TCP/IP networking.
It is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
As such, the Linux kernel and most of the Linux system is freely distributable. Essentially this means that you are free to do within reason what you like with the system. For exact details, a copy of the GNU General Public License is included on the FTP site for your reference.
The ARM port runs on several different machine and processor architectures, including complete computers, network computers and evaluation boards.
