What is NNTP Proxy?

A closer look at NNTP Proxy
This program is a true NNTP Proxy, very similar to POP3 proxy (where the ideacame from). All other proxies I have found are in fact only a TCP mapping;this means either to use only one news server or to define a mapping for eachserver you want to reach. Of course this means to use a different port foreach mapping; and because the maintainance must be done on the local server, one needs always to ask a network administrator for a change. This program is completely different: the target server (and port) areextracted from the user name sent as authentication. You need to set your newsclient to use authentication, then set your user name as user#server:port. If your server doesn't require authentication, leave the user part empty(like '#server').Advantages: - it works as a service on Windows NT, and as a simple application in Win9x/ME. - after setting up (which usually means just to start it once), there is no need for anything else on the server/proxy machine. - virtually unlimited target servers. - no proxy maintenance needed.
