Hot Potatoes v4.0 Description:
JBC enables you to create multiple-choice quizzes, where each question can have up to five answers, and any number of them can be correct. Specific feedback is given to the student in response to each answer, and a percentage score is displayed after each correct answer.
JQuiz allows you to design short-answer quizzes, in which the student enters a word or a sentence in response to a question. The sentences can be checked against a maximum of four correct answers, and the feedback relates the parts of the student's answer which are correct. The student can ask for a hint if necessary, and view the next correct letter in the answer.
JCloze creates fill-in-the-blank exercises. Up to 100 correct answers can be specified for each blank, and the student can ask for a hint and view a letter of the correct answer. A specific clue can also be included for each blank. The applet allows the blanking of selected words, or the automatic blanking of every nth word in a text. Automatic scoring is also included.
JCross designs crossword puzzles which can be completed online. You can use a grid with up to 20x20 letters. As in JQuiz and JCloze, a hint button allows the student to request a free letter if help is needed.
JMix lets you create jumbled-sentence exercises. You can specify up to 100 different correct answers based on the words and punctuation in the base sentence, and a hint button prompts the student with the next correct word or segment of the sentence if needed.
Finally, JMatch enables you to design matching or ordering exercises. A list of fixed items appears on the left (these can be images or text), and jumbled items on the right. It can be used for matching vocabulary to pictures or translations, or for ordering sentences to form a sequence or a conversation.
Hot Potatoes supports accented characters, and includes the ability to access and change the source code from which pages are compiled.
