is a Napster-like utility which prevents copyright violation by disallowing file copying and only allowing encrypted, on-demand streaming between users.
In depth
It utilizes encrypted streaming technology, and consists of a collection of Java servlets which are processed by Apache's Tomcat Java servlet engine and a C/C++ plug-in to a media player like RealPlayer or WinAmp.
The Java server encrypts MP3s using a unique key retrieved from centralized servers. When a user plays an MP3 file, the C/C++ plug-in retrieves a decryption key using secure sockets and decrypts the file immediately before delivering it to the user's sound card.
The program runs as a convenient icon in the System Tray area of the Windows taskbar.
